FAQ’s
LASER – Light Amplification by
Stimulated Emission of Radiation What is Paragon’s background? Paragon Holdings LLC was formed in March 1999 specializing in custom machine design and build. After extensive market research, Paragon saw the laser marking industry as an opportunity. With many hours in research, design and testing Paragon located the best in laser technology and created a product primarily designed for ease of use and maintenance, but also, long life and stability. Paragon’s product has been selected from the background
of a frustrated user. We have experienced the ongoing downtime, costly
service contracts, lengthy delays, lack of support and fussy equipment
common to this industry. For more details on Paragon's background, please download our power point presentation here. What are the advantages of marking parts? (Sometimes referred to as
Direct Part Marking, engraving or etching.) By marking parts, you can identify and track parts
throughout the manufacturing process as well as the warranty period.
“Cradle to grave” trace-ability has become “the standard” in
industry. Your requirement might be serialization, barcode, data matrix,
part numbering, or even permanent application of your company logo. Also, in today’s business environment, it is necessary to
minimize exposure to long-term liability and have an efficient means of
recalling suspect parts. How does laser marking work? In Fiber Lasers a single-mode fiber core is doped
with erbium-ytterbium. An array of laser diodes, pumps the core, emitting
a wavelength. The laser marker follows a path to form characters and vector or raster images. This is done by steering the laser beam with computer-controlled scanning mirrors through a focusing optic that concentrates the laser energy into a tiny spot. Paragon Laser Systems are
Q-Switched Yterrbium (IR) fiber lasers
with an emission wavelength of
1060 - 1070 nm.
These are the most capable systems for the industrial environment. The laser system as well as the marking content is
controlled by an easy to use, Windows based laser-marking software. Why choose fiber laser technology? Fiber laser is preferred because it is compact, consumes
very little energy, and is easily integrated yet it places a high
concentration of power to the work surface. The fiber laser technology
offers higher output powers, superior beam quality and maintenance free
operation. What materials can I mark? Paragon laser systems will mark most metals, some rubbers,
plastics, composites, and ceramics depending on their composition. The
high peak power allows you to mark highly reflective materials such as
gold, copper, brass and aluminum. Send
us your samples What happens to the part surface when it is lasered? Terms such as ablating, vaporizing, melting or annealing
refer to the results of laser marking. Depending on the material, various
effects or reactions result in a range of depths and contrasts, including
light to dark marks. What type of maintenance is required on the laser system? Our systems offer virtually maintenance-free operation,
based on telecommunications lasers with life expectancy approaching
100,000 laser hours or a ten-year life span. You need only clean your lens
and fan filters occasionally. Paragon recommends the use of a power
conditioner of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) on the incoming power
line. In case I have a special
application, what engineering and integration services does Paragon offer? Paragon employs highly qualified engineers to design,
fabricate and install turnkey solutions. Paragon brings a high level of
automation talent, machine design, control design and fitting, and special
tooling for part fixturing. The talents and extensive backgrounds of the
Paragon staff make it possible to offer solution-based services. What kind of warranty does a Paragon Laser System have? Paragon Laser Systems are delivered with a full one-year
warranty. Paragon gives same business day telephone support,
overnight parts replacement if necessary and the commitment of our
integrity.
